Just Released April 29, 2008, Mindless Self Indulgence brims to the top again with another great punk rock album complete with fun comic art to go with it. Jhonen Vasquez’s contribution to the album art was also an amazing idea.
Vasquez adds that needed touch to this new stroke of genius. That’s right, another butting of heads, hard working, mind boggling chariot ride pays off for Urine, Rich, Linz and Kitty of Mindless Self Indulgence. Since 1997 this group of New Yorkers have always been independent ruffians out to have a good time, and have now come up with some truly amazing, this will be something difficult to top.
Each edition of this new album, If, contains different quirks, surprises and goodies throughout. Being as I’m not usually a huge fan of punk rock (the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, or the Peaches are probably the closest I would get) this album blew me out of the ocean so much so that I’m keeping a keen eye and a hawk ear on the punk scene now thanks to this piece of brilliance.
From start to finish, this album makes you want to rock out, just as punk rock should. Each song’s lyrics, along with the musical quirks, tell a story from start to finish. “Issues” made me laugh with its intense but realistic sexy spinny sounds and “Evening Wear” made me want to go out and have fun just for me.
From the serious catchy lyrics to the poppy fun ups and downs of each song, this album will make a fun and necessary addition to your punk rock collection. Now it’s just a matter of which album edition you want to add to your collection. Have a look at the following descriptions of each edition.
