In 1991 Arizona natives The Phunk Junkeez came together to mark their territory among the surge of rock/rap hybrid bands. 17 years later they're still bringing their blend of rambunctious music to devoted fans.
However, the rest of us are weary of this energetic music. Take note that no matter how hard Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit - which was one of the more poignant (if that's possible) bands during the "rapcore" popularity - tries he can't seem to remain relevant. The next generation of alternative bands have already arrived and many have departed; see Linkin Park, P.O.D., Hoobastank, and Papa Roach. Jokers of the scene, The Bloodhound Gang come first to mind, were novelty and fell out of the public consciousness and received one-hit-wonder status. Not even the Phunk Junkeez "Trust Issue", concerning ambiguity in public trust, addresses issues with the urgency of someone like M.I.A. It's not that the Phunk Junkeez are terrible, its just they misinterpret what a wider audience wants and needs.
So what do the Phunk Junkeez bring? More of that misogynistic, drunk college frat boy, stoner bravado. They don't even make it adorable and humorous like the Beastie Boys did by virtue of sheer honesty. This "phunk" borders on obnoxious. Sorry, this music just doesn't make sense to me.
