Are you at all familiar with "stoner-rock"? I can't say I've ever encountered the term, that is until I listened to El Gordo, the Swedish "stoner-rock" trio. What this rock amounts to is a fuzzy ambience, strained vocals behind layers of static, and drums that sound like they were recorded 5 miles away. Something that I question in El Gordo's sound is the quality of the recording; is it just poorly mixed and engineered or do they want to sound patchy and incoherent. There are no points where all instruments are defined individually. Instead they are mashed together in a soup of noise. It's hard to really take the song lyrics seriously, because all they amount to is an excuse for the band to thrash out six minute electro jams. So there is a man behind the machine, I'm sure a calculator would produce more interesting results than what El Gordo do on this 10 song record.
