There are moments on the album which nurture possibilities, however the roads travelled by Death By Kite are not always the most effective. Hailing from Denmark the trio (Bjorn Alexander Gotzsche Lange on guitar, Sidsel Marie Hermansen on bass, and Kristian Kimer on drums) has honed the pop-rock sound down to the rapid strumming and the 3 chord song structure typical of a mainstream punk outfit. The problem is that they don't evolve the sound any further. Basically, what Death By Kite is doing is being done elsewhere, and with more creative results. The first song "Sweet M" one of their most energetic and promising; utilizing Sidsel Marie Hermansen's vocals to contrast the darkening chords and vigorous drums. Even if the lyrics aren't provoking, the group is atleast teasing a possibility far more adventurous and interesting than what can be found on the rest of their self titled cd. The songs are, unfortunately, formulaic and don't hint at a new perspective. It may take some time before Death By Kite garners greater attention, but they have the potential. They'll just have to observe the possibilities and select them with artistic grace and proficiency.
