It's Always Something A Star-Studded Affair

E-mail Print

This year’s edition of “It’s Always Something” will be a showcase for the hilarious, the soulful, and the legendary.

Canadian stand-up comedian Russell Peters will be returning to his hosting duties from last year to man the star-studded gala, taking place Monday, November 24th at the Princess of Wales Theatre. Peters is a Gemini Award-winner whose latest comedy album, Red, White, and Brown debuted at number three on the SoundScan Top Current Albums chart. He’s played the Air Canada Centre to rapturous response several times, and is one of the most versatile comedians in the business.

Peters will be joined by comic Ron James, who has just completed filming his fifth CBC comedy special and will be touring through Ontario in January and February. Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood, known for their considerable improvisational skills on Whose Line Is It Anyway?, are set to perform along with the woman voted Canada’s Best Female Comic in 2007, stand-up master and occasional CBC Radio One commentator, Debra DiGiovanni.

The evening will also feature the stellar vocal talents of Juno Award-winning Jully Black, lately known for her bouncy club anthem “DJ Play My Song.” The legendary Andy Kim, the man behind the famously sweet 60s pop tunes “Sugar Sugar” and “Baby, I Love You” will be lending his talents, along with Dawn Langstroth, daughter of Anne Murray. The cast of the hugely successful musical “The Sound of Music,” now on at the Princess of Wales, will lend their voices to the occasion, and, in the tradition of “It’s Always Something”, the organizers say there are a few surprise guests in store too.

An annual event in its sixth year, “It’s Always Something” has raised more than $2 million for Gilda’s Club, an agency that provides free emotional and social support programs for kids, teens, and adults living with cancer. The organization is named after the legendary comedian Gilda Radner, who lost her battle with ovarian cancer in 1989.

Tickets for “It’s Always Something” can be obtained by calling 1-800-461-3333 or online at www.ticketking.com.
