This week’s look at new releases on DVD and Blu-Ray for December 1st

terminator_bd_packshotTerminator Salvation

Finally we see the post-Judgment Day war between man and machines only hinted at in previous Terminator movies. Christian Bale, still growling like Batman, stars as John Connor, leader of the resistance, Anton Yelchin is Kyle Reese, who was sent back in time to both save and help conceive Connor in the original movie, and Sam Worthington is the cyborg caught in the middle.

Five Minutes of Heaven

Not to be mistaken with the middle school make-out game Seven Minutes in Heaven, this drama stars Liam Neeson and James Nesbitt as old enemies from their IRA days who are suddenly brought face-to-face to settle old scores.

Paper Heart

A quasi-documentary, sorta-mocumentary about comic actor Charlyne Yi’s search for the true nature of love, which takes a surprising turn when she meets and falls for Michael Cera, who is now her real-life boyfriend.

Flame & Citron

Mads Mikkelsen, Casino Royale’s bloody-teared Bond villain, stars in this World War II thriller about a German resistance group. Think of it like a real-life Inglourious Basterds.

Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian movieposter2

Ben Stiller battles an army of the Egyptian undead alongside Amelia Earhart and Al Capone in this FX-fueled family film.

Mystery Science Theater 3000: XVI [Limited Edition]

If you don’t know MST3000 where have you been? No longer must you mock and ridicule bad sci-fi alone. Films include The Corpse Vanishes, Warrior Of The Lost World, Santa Claus, and Night Of The Blood Beast.

Saturday Night Live: The Complete Fifth Season

This season (1979-80) marked the end of classic SNL, as most if not all of the original cast and writers had moved on by season six. Among the hosts are Steve Martin, Eric Idle, Buck Henry, Rodney Dangerfield, Martin Sheen, Bea Arthur, Ted Knight, Elliot Gould, Burt Reynolds, Bob Newhart, and former cast member Chevy Chase. The complete fifth season of SNL features classic performances by Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Randy Newman, The B-52s, The J. Geils Band, Anne Murray, Grateful Dead, Blondie, as well as Paul Simon and James Taylor celebrating the 100th episode live from Studio 8H.

BetterOffTed_S1Better Off Ted: Season One

This two-disc set lets you catch up on one the overlooked sitcom gems of the last couple of years. Set in an office workplace it suffered from comparisons to a certain Steve Carell-starring office comedy.

The Rolling Stones: Gimme Shelter (The Criterion Collection)

This is considered the greatest rock film ever made. What more do you need to know about this seminal rock doc that follows the Rolling Stones on their notorious 1969 U.S. tour that included the Altamont Speedway concert that saw Hell’s Angels clash with the Love Generation and proving that the times were indeed a-changing. Silent Night, Deadly Night III, IV, & V [Box Set]

A trio of Christmas-themed slasher movies sounds like the perfect stocking stuffer.

Mental: The Complete First Season

Like House with a sense of humour as psychologist Dr. Jack Gallagher (Chris Vance) goes to extreme and unconventional lengths to help heal his patients of their mental demons.

Death Warrior

Catch UFC fighter Quinton “Rampage” Jackson acting up a storm in this actioner destined to capitalize on his casting as BA Baracus in the upcoming A-Team movie.
