A selection of artwork by the Oscar-winning actor
Sir Anthony Hopkins is being shown for the first time in Canada. Presented at the
Harbour Gallery, located just outside of Toronto, the show features a mix of large-scale acrylic paintings and smaller ink sketches and drawings.
The actor, director, writer and composer, who is perhaps best-known for playing
Hannibal Lecter in
The Silence of the Lambs, is a longtime painting afficionado, and indeed, played the painter
Pablo Picasso in
a 1996 film detailing the Spanish artist’s life.
With the encouragement of his wife, Stella, who has long been established in the art and antiques business, Hopkins debuted his paintings in 2005. More than one hundred works sold in less than a week, with of the proceeds benefiting the
Born to Read literacy foundation.
At the opening in Mississauga’s Harbour Gallery Tuesday evening, several viewers took special delight in examining the Welsh artist’s work, and there were even a few on-the-spot sales.
Future exhibitions of Hopkins’ work will be held in Los Angeles, London, Munich, Dubai, Beijing, Tokyo and Moscow.
An Exhibition of Sir Anthony Hopkins’ Artwork runs now through June 10th at Harbour Gallery, 1697 Lakeshore West, Mississauga, Ontario. www.harbourgallery.com
