On Tuesday, Lady Gaga was announced with much fanfare as the latest addition to the performance line-up for the MuchMusic Video Awards. The next day, she was announced as the recipient of two nominations for the awards themselves.

An impressive feat, but an honour that Lady Gaga shares with 12 other artists who each received two nominations when the the MMVA ballot was announced yesterday. The top nominees were Alberta rockers Nickelback and pop music newcomer Danny Fernandes. Both Nickelback and Fernandes got five nominations each, including going head-head for the Video of the Year prize.
Marianas Trench held the second place spot for the most nominations solo. The pop-punk rock band from Vancouver BC is also up for Video of the Year as well as being tapped for the MuchLOUD Rock Video of the Year.
It was a five-way tie for third with three nominations apiece for Classified, Bedouin Soundclash, Theory Of A Deadman, The Midway State and k-os. Hip-hop artists Classified and k-os will face-off against one and other for the MuchVIBE Hip-Hop Video of the Year prize, while Bedouin Soundclash and Midway State duke it out for the VideoFACT Indie Video of the Year honour. Theory of a Deadman meanwhile will face-off against Nickelback and Marianas Trench for the MuchLOUD Rock Video award.

A diverse range of names make up the International ballots with veteran nominees like Beyonce, Britney Spears, Kanye West and Kelly Clarkson going up against newbies like Katy Perry, Kevin Rudolf, Miley Cyrus and the aforementioned Lady Gaga. In the group category, it’ll be old favourites Coldplay, Green Day, The Black Eyed Peas and The Killers against new favourites Kings of Leon, Metro Station, and MGMT, not to mention the awards show’s host, The Jonas Brothers.

The popular People’s Choice Award categories will be back this year, but under the new name UR FAVE awards. Fans will be able to go to Muchmusic’s website and vote in one of three categories: UR FAVE Video of the Year, UR FAVE International Video of the Year and UR FAVE New Artist of the Year.
