Peters took a walk offstage and came on a close to close with the audience welcoming some of the audience stars which included many musical names such as, Elvis Costello, Bryan Adams, Michael Buble, Divine Brown, who he decided to give as he put it “an awkward hug” too.
Songwriter of the year was introduced
Nominees were:
Alanis Morisette
Nathan Hollow
Gordie Samson
Hedley
Dallas Green
The Juno went to the talented Dallas Green.
Sam Roberts who won for Rock Album of the year the night before, took the stage next and rocked out his song “Them Kids”. After his performance, Rap recording of the year went to Toronto rapper Kardinal Offishall who was not present but had a video recording of his gratitude for the award
Sarah McLaughlin, who won the Allan Waters humanitarian award for her charity work, took the stage looking glamorous and preformed her new single “You Want Me to.” McLaughlin always manages to put on a brilliant performance, but her performance could have been way better. By no fault of her own, the guitar, piano, the whole of the instruments were much too loud compared to McLaughlin you could barely hear her singing, and the guitar player kept messing up.
New Artist of the Year was up next:
Nominees were:
Lights
Jessie Farrel
Crystal Shawanda
Nikki Yanofski
Kreesha Turner
And the young and beautiful synth star Lights, Valerie Poxleitner won and took the stage, without her trademark headband and in a stunningly beautiful purple dress that showed off some of her tattoo work. She wasn’t expecting this she said and literally put it into perspective that someone can do this independently and succeed. She is a definite inspiration for young people with big dreams.
City in Colour and Gord Downey took the stage for City in Colour’s song, “Sleeping Sickness.” The backdrop of this performance was stunningly beautiful. The performance was one of the key ones of the night.
A dedication recap for the legendary band, Loverboy as the red hot rock and roll band since the 1980s was shown before the band members were welcomed to the stage for their award. A well deserved award for them.
The fun loving Serena Ryder took the stage for a performance of her energy pumping song “Little Bit of Red.” After which www.musiccounts.ca had a pretty interesting and great message to the public with their clip about donating to music programs for students to learn and be creative in school.
The lovely song, “Walk On By” was preformed next by Bryan Adams and Kathleen Edwards, with Edwards on the Violin and Adams on guitar. Adams couldn’t help but snicker a little at Edwards nod and smile reaction to the line in the song “watch out those boys are gonna hit on you.” This performance was another one of my favourites for the night.
The Artist of the Year award was up next
The Nominees were:
Bryan Adams
Sam Roberts
City and Colour
Serena Ryder
K.D. Lang
And the Juno went to Sam Roberts who all got a standing ovation for appreciation as they approached the stage. Roberts was very grateful and started out his thank you to his band, stating, “These are the people that allowed me to do what I do every day…. This is for the people who allowed me to do music every day.”
Hawksley Workman took the stage with Great Big Sea and turned out to be a stunning performance by the artists. They ended up closing off the show with a rock out encore performance.
