Inward Eye consists of three brothers: Dave Erickson handles vocals and bass, Kyle is on guitar and backing vocals, and Anders plays drums. Together for eleven years, the band have been making waves since being chosen as The Who’s openers on their North American tour last year. They namecheck The Kinks, The Clash, and of course, The Who as big influences, but their Myspace page also lists fellow Winnipeg rockers The Waking Eyes as among their top friends. Their first single, “Shame” (taken from their newly-released self-titled EP) has hints of punk, metal and jagged, cutting emo. Having just wrapped up a well-received series of appearances at Canadian Music Week that saw them play the opening of the three-day music fest as well as the closing-night Indie Awards, the sibling rockers are now getting set to hit Austin for the annual South by Southwest Music Festival. They previously played the celebrated music fest in 2005 and 2007, and it was Austin that provided the launching pad that lead to the opening place with Pete Townsend et al. Following SXSW, they have a series of dates around North America, including a slew of dates in Vancouver, where they’ll be opening for Thornley and Mobile, respectively. After that, they begin the Warped Tour at the end of July. They’ve recently wrapped up recording their first full-length album, which is due for release this fall. |
