One of my more recent articles was a overtake on the Grammy Awards, which this year was a massive success and also tied in some more shocking stories, one in particular that has been pasted on every entertainment magazine’s cover stories now, since the

dreaded night it occurred. I’m talking about the alleged then and apparently proven now, miss happens to brilliant Pop Star, Rihanna. Shocking news was appearing out from everywhere that x boyfriend who is now the apparent boyfriend again, Chris Brown, who according to several ET Magazines and some ET Hosts, had beaten Rihanna quite badly.
Most often than not after International Women’s Day has approached in the past, if you live in a heavily populated area you are submerged by public publicity promoting that the day is approaching, so it’s not a surprise if you were aware of the day and were perhaps celebrating it. International Women’s day is a yearly celebration by many set on the 8th of March. The day has been celebrated since the early 1900’s and was notably proposed to be a celebrated day in 1910 by then Leader of the Women’s Office for the Social Democratic Party in Germany, Clara Zetkin. A bit of history is that the conference of the proposal was populated by over 100 women from 17 countries who represented everything from unions to women’s clubs. The result of the proposal was unanimous approval and, of course, the result was International Women’s Day which was first officially celebrated the following year. With all this in the back of our minds, this is a time when many reflect on things of this world that deserve a fight.
As International Women’s Day just past, women’s issues remain the focus of many, and finding ways to help fight the issues women face as well. Also known as the Kings of Hip-Hop and Soul, Samson and Sejour, a New York- born and raised hip – hop duo, have just released a new track that is, in short, unique, informative and very well done. More important than the beautifully collaborated musical elements brought in along side with the Hip-Hop beats, is what is in the message of the song. Noting, again, what has been going on lately in the music world regarding violence, particularly violence against women, and in light of International Women’s Day being just around the corner, this track could not have possibly been released at a better time. It was noted in the Press Release for this video, that Josue Sejour stated “this is an issue that we’ve always felt strongly about.” He further stated “Samson and I were raised by strong women. We want to represent the other side of the fence where it’s okay to respect our women. They deserve it.”
The track is called “Women Make The World Go Round” and features not only Samson and Sejor themselves, but also Miri Ben-Ari, a Hip-Hop violinist. The video, which was directed by Kamisol, has already received much praise from around the world, and is even currently in rotation on MTV in France, among other video channels and websites. The Press Release for the video also stated that “in addition to TV and Internet, the music and acting communities have been coming out in support of Samson and Sejour’s venture as well.” Names such as Mark Ronson, award winning producer, Beverly Bond, CEO of Black Girls Rock, Ms. Cyndi Lauper, Oscar-winning actor

Adrien Brody, all of who have highly praised and show much respect for the subjects that Samson and Sejour are raising and working resolve.
The message in the song is simple; treat women with respect, not just the young and old, all women. From your grandmother, to your mother, to your sister and of course your significant other, because after all, without us women, you men would not even exist. This is the first track from the upcoming album which also features names like Mark Ronson, Rockwilder, Todd Terry, and Armand Van Helden. Robyn Smith of RStar Publicity mentions that “the song is the first step in a movement Samson and Sejor started to bring recognition to the issues of violence and abuse against women.” Samson and Sejor have even started a MySpace page found at
http://www.myspace.com/samsonandsejourwomenunite which features not only the song, but also information for women’s organizations as well as how both men and women can help women get help for whatever they need help for.
Throughout the video, Women Make the World Go Round, between footage of Samson and Sejor, are various women and girls dancing and holding posters with different sayings on them ranging from “I’m More than Flesh”, to “Respect my Freedom”, to “I Complete U” to many more representative and thought provoking sayings. The video has a way of showing women as beautiful and fun loving beings as equal and needed in every way as men are. Though I may not often simply turn on a Hip Hop album, this is a video that I would recommend to many as a way of showing how women should be viewed and should always be viewed.
