2009 Juno Nominations Announced!

“Judging by the record number of JUNO Awards submissions received this year from artists across the country and the nominees named today, it is clear that Canadian musicians are at the top of their game and continue to add new layers of creativity and excellence to their craft and to the global music industry as well,” said Melanie Berry, President of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS).

The wealth seems pretty thoroughly spread amongst numerous acts. The top earner though is Alberta-born Nickelback who have five nominations in the categories Juno Fan Choice, Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Group of the Year and Producer of the Year. Sam Roberts came in second with nods for Artist of the Year, Rock Album of the Year and two nominations for Video of the Year. Céline Dion and Hedley each earned three nominations. Both are nominees for the Juno Fan Choice with Céline Dion for Single of the Year and Music DVD of the Year and Hedley for Album of the Year and Songwriter of the Year.

Also announced were a few names for the performance line-up. So far Nickelback, Simple Plan, City and Colour and Sarah McLachlin are on the schedule, with more names to follow as we get closer to the big night. Speaking of which, the Junos will air live from General Motors Place in future Olympic host city Vancouver, British Columbia on Sunday, March 29th, 2009. In the meantime, here’s the complete list of nominees:
