Presented by Monster Energy – Unleash the Beast, (where would we be without our energy drinks); Punk-O-Rama with Host JD and Barry Taylor, aired Tuesdays at 11pm on 101.2 the Edge; and on of Toronto’s top musical production companies, Underground operations, is the second annual page turning twist on an awards show, the F-U Awards to be held at the Sound Academy in the beautiful, Toronto, Ontario this February 5th. With comedy sensation Jason Mewes, star of Jay and Silent Bob, joining forces with Punkorama’s host JD and Barry Taylor from 101.2 the Edge, the night already deems to be one that is jam packed full of entertainment, music, and humour. As well, just to make fans more excited and eager to make it out to the show, JD and Taylor are going to be hosting a Question and Answer period with Mewes at the show. If you have a question in mind for Mewes, you can email JD and Taylor at punkorama@edge.ca with your name and question.

From the music, the awards, various skateboarding acts and much more, the Sound Academy is in the process of preparing for an unforgettable night full of entertainment. With killer party hopping musical performances promised by The Flatliners, Die Manniquin, The Artist Life, Kingdoms, and many more, the party will not stop until the patrons close it down.
Along side with the musical performances it is promised that there will also be professional skate demo’s, video game competitions with the fans versus the hosts, a Andrew WK and Jason Mewes look a like contest and much more exciting entertainment factors for you and your friends to look forward to. And of course the fact that this is an awards show, it would not be complete without the awards.

With only five categories available, the nominees were announced on January 13th with the brilliant metal band, Protest the Hero receiving an exciting three nominations out of the five categories, though the one category of which the received a nomination, is a given. Protest the Hero worked hard and defiantly deserves the recognition.
Nominees were as follows, for the Young Jedi Award which is the Up and Coming Band of ’08 nominees are Kingdoms, Jr. Battles, Sara Blackwood, Sights and Sounds, and Little Millionaires. For the Henry Rollins “Get in the Van” Award which is the Hardest Working Band of ’08, the nominee’s were Die Mannequin, The Holly Springs Disaster, Cancer Bats, The Flatliners and Protest the Hero. The Monster Energy Most Outstanding Live Preformance Award nominees are Protest the Hero, The Creepshow, Die Mannequin, Fucked Up, and Living with Lions. The Song of the Year nominees are Saint Alvia Cartel “Romeo”, The Artist Life “The Last Time”, Living with Lions “Bottle of Charades”, Fucked Up “Magic Word”, and Cancer Bats “Hail Destroyer”. And lastly The Lanny McDonald Award for Best Facial Hair of ’08’s only nominee was Tim Millar of Protest the Hero, and rightfully so, his hair is so long that I would deem it definably metal. Millar not only has long hair, but the full on beard to go with it.
It is not often enough that the public gets to take part in the voting for these awards shows and this show is solely for the public to put their opinion in the ballot box. Your votes can be cast starting on Tuesday January 20th on the F-U Awards website that can be found at www.fuawards.com.
