With now over 100 categories ranging from the more popular ones such as Record Of The Year and Best New Artist all the way up to categories such as Best Score Soundtrack Album For Motion Picture Television Or Other Visual Media, to Best Recording Package, and even Best Long Form Music Video.  With so many ways to win, the nominations piled in and the finalized nominations were announced in December 2008.

This time around, the Nominations were reflected as one of the most diverse years when it comes to types of nominations, noting that in particular the Album of the Year category alone, along with many other diverse categories, represented the rap, R & B, folk and even rock genres.  This gives the musical talent of North America even more of a opportunity to strive for the win.

From Lil Wayne’s thrilling eight nominations, to Coldplay and their exciting seven nominations, along with Jay-Z, Ne-Yo and Kanye West all earning six nominations, these are just a few of the lucky nominee’s, there were many more.

This year, not only are the nominee’s reflections of how diverse the talent of the musical community possesses, but also how brilliant the musical community has become.

Some of the nominee’s were as follows:
Album Of The Year:
Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends by Coldplay
Tha Carter III by Lil Wayne
Year Of The Gentleman by Ne-Yo
Raising Sand by Robert Plant & Alison Krauss
And lastly, In Rainbows by Radiohead

My personal favourite and the one that gets my vote is Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends by Coldplay.

Nominees for Record Of The Year are:
"Chasing Pavements" — Adele
"Viva La Vida" — Coldplay
"Bleeding Love" — Leona Lewis
"Paper Planes" — M.I.A
"Please Read The Letter" — Robert Plant & Alison Krauss

My vote is steering towards M.I.A’s “Paper Planes,” but I’m going to have to stick to “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay.

And Best New Artist nominees are:
Adele
Duffy
Jonas Brothers
Lady Antebellum
Jazmine Sullivan

And all because of her Jazzy, soul perfection nature and this being my all-time favourite music, Adele get’s my vote five times over.

The ballots were send out for the final round of voting to the voting members of the Recording Academy to decide on their choice and are due back by January 14th.  After they are received they will be tabulated and the results will be kept under wraps and in secret until the night of the ceremony and telecast.

These along with many more nominees can be seen at the awards ceremony which is going to be held Feb. 8, 2009 in the bright and sleepless city of Los Angeles and televised for us to enjoy on CBS.
