| Described as “part art, part bio,” the 13-episode series will be produced in association with PTV productions, a company specializing in feature documentaries and factual programming. Hosted by Mamma Mia star Louise Pitre, the series will feature an array of figures from the worlds of media, music, comedy and sports. Some of those profiled in the series include Ashley MacIsaac, Dr. Roberta Bondar, Alex Trebek, Pamela Wallin, Colin Mochrie, and The Amazing Kreskin. Star Portraits is modeled on the hit BBC program of the same name. Each half-hour episode will feature three Canadian painters, who will be brought to a mystery location as chosen by the celebrity guest of the episode. Only a set amount of time is given for the artists to get to know their subject, and after that, two weeks for the artists to finish their respective works. At the end of the process, the painters will reveal their works to the celebrity sitter, who will, in turn, choose one portrait to add to their personal collection. Out of the total remaining portraits by the series’ end, six will be chosen for display at the Portrait Gallery of Canada for their permanent collection; the remainder will be auctioned off at Joyner Waddington’s Auction of Important Canadian Art, with proceeds going to a charity of the celebrities’ choice. The series, shooting now through February in Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal, is set for broadcast on Bravo!, CTV’s arts and culture station, next year. | ![]() Louise Pitre |
