Embarking on an international tour, airing a new series, and shedding old characters, the artists formerly known as Ricky, Julian and Bubbles may forever be known as Ricky, Julian and Bubbles.

THE CINEFORUM EXPERIENCE: LAST NIGHT I DREAMT I MET REG HARTT

Since 1992, eccentric archivist Reg Hartt has opened his doors to lovers of rare film. With a screening room in his front parlour, he welcomes any and all curious visitors. You will know his house when you see it. There is a red neon sign in his window that blinks “Cineforum”, a Greek inscription above his door that reads “Abandon all hope, ye who enter here”, and a cast of mysterious characters that lurk in the shadowy background. Two weeks after granting us an interview, a pile of crumpled notes were found on our office doorstep, and we have dutifully transcribed them for you, on fear of mystic retribution. Enjoy.

Von Trier Chases Horror and Controversy with Antichrist

Apparently, the title was the first thing Lars von Trier wrote down about his new film, Antichrist. Speaking during a telephone interview from his native Denmark, Lars muses about his film’s controversial title. Calling a movie Antichrist, is indeed a pretty provocative place to begin the creative process.

When there’s no more room in hell, the dead shall walk the earth. Or, at least, downtown Toronto and not just at Halloween. Twice in the past two months, zombie fans have lurched, lumbered, moaned and bled their way through the city’s core. The first time was to celebrate the world premiere of Survival of the Dead, the sixth film in writer-director George A. Romero’s unending undead series. The second was to celebrate the Toronto Zombie Walk, and a Romero-inspired double feature of Night of the Comet and Zombie. Romero, of course, started the zombie craze with 1968’s no-budget classic Night of the Living Dead.

“Everyone can relate to feeling like an outsider,” says director Cherien Dabis via telephone one rainy afternoon. “Everyone can relate to wanting to fit in. We all have felt like we didn’t.”

Teamwork is a challenge for anyone, particularly within corporate environments where the pressures of time and budget are often a big consideration, along with developing client relationships and attempting to blend often wildly different personality types. In the new film Eating Buccaneers, released in Toronto on October 16th, the challenges of teamwork are taken to a whole new level.
