Headline: Guy Ritchie calls back cast and crew to tweak Sherlock Holmes Perhaps director Guy Ritchie had an attack of conscience, or maybe too many people grumbled in disappointment after seeing the preview. In any case, the upcoming
Sherlock Holmes film is being re-filmed to (supposedly) to include Professor Moriarty, Holmes’s arch-nemesis from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s original literature series.
What does this mean for production? Most of those involved, including Robert Downey Jr. who plays the eponymous role, were called back to London to re-shoot and add new scenes (which might indicate a shift in the plot). As a result, the release date might be pushed back to early 2010, instead of the originally-intended Christmas Day release this year. What people are most interested right now are the rumours about who has taken on the role of the Moriarty. Many sources originally stated that Brad Pitt claimed the role, but that was quickly shot down by reps of Warner Bros. No actor is yet to be credited to the role.
Headline: The Cranberries are back and Bob Dylan gets festive for a good cause The acclaimed Irish rock band The Cranberries have decided to end their hiatus. After over five years of pursuing solo projects, members, Dolores O’Riordan, Noel Hogan, Michael Hogan and Fergal Lawler, have announced a North American tour expected to start in mid-November, and European tour in 2010. O’Riordan made the following statement about the band’s long-awaited reunion: "We will be writing new songs and performing tracks off my new album as well as our greatest hits during the shows. I'd love to see you out there."
American folk-rock legend Bob Dylan will be releasing a holiday album. The record,
Christmas In The Heart, will hit stores on October 13th. All proceeds (including any future U.S. royalties) will go to Feeding America, a charity organization dedicated to providing meals for the needy during the holiday season in the United States, as well as other international charities.
Christmas In The Heart will be Bob Dylan’s 47th album. This release will come only five months after his latest album,
Together Through Life, which came out in late April.
Headline: Award-winning Canadian novel to be adapted to the screen On a final Canadian note, Lawrence Hill has yet another achievement to celebrate. After receiving critical praise and several awards (including the 2008 Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Overall Best Book), Hill’s third novel
The Book of Negroes (alternatively titled
Someone Knows My Name in American editions) will soon be headed to the big screen. The story of 11-year-old Aminata Diallo’s journey from her village in West Africa to life as a slave in the United States gained worldwide recognition since being released in 2007. HarperCollins Canada, the book’s publisher, has sold the film rights to Canadian director Clement Virgo (
Lie With Me,
Love Come Down,
Poor Boy’s Game) and his production company, Conquering Lions Pictures. Virgo has expressed the possibility of partnering with British and South African production companies to create the film, and is adamant about filming in locations around the world as depicted in the story, including Canada, the U.S., England, and Africa.
